RCIA AND CIC

RCIA

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process by which adults (18+) enter the Catholic Church. During this process, those who have never been baptized prepare for the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, and eucharist, while those who have been baptized previously in some other Christian denomination prepare for a profession of faith, as well as the sacraments of confirmation and eucharist.

Ordinarily, the process consists of two main components: 1) a number of presentations on the basic teachings of the Catholic Church and 2) a series of special rituals in church to mark the progress of the participants. Throughout the process, participants are expected to engage in serious prayer, study, and reflection on their own. Formal entrance into the Catholic Church takes place at the conclusion of the process.

Those interested in becoming Catholics are invited to contact the pastor for more information. CIC

Children older than seven years of age participate in a similar process called the Christian Initiation of Children (CIC). It is a mandatory process to prepare parents and sponsors for the reception of this sacrament. All children must participate in the catechetical ministry for at least one year prior to attending the sacrament preparation process. The second year the children must attend all of the sacrament preparation sessions, their regular class, all special rites, and Sunday Mass. Those children who are ready at the end of the second year will be fully initiated by receiving the sacraments of baptism, eucharist and confirmation together.

Parents are invited to contact the pastoral associate for more information.
